Koa the Sea Turtle is a calm, free swimming game for young kids. Koa, a baby sea turtle, swims through a bright sea with three lanes. Tap the lane where Koa should go and he glides there. Collect shells and shiny pearls, swim past sleepy jellyfish and see how far you can get. Shells unlock seven more turtle friends with colourful shell patterns. It runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download and no sign-up.

How to play

  1. Tap the lane where Koa should swim, or slide your finger up and down.
  2. On a keyboard, use the up and down arrow keys.
  3. Collect shells. A pearl is worth 5 shells.
  4. Bumping a sleepy jellyfish costs one heart. A heart bubble gives one back.
  5. Use your shells to unlock new turtle friends.

Controls

  • Tap or click the lane where Koa should swim: top, middle or bottom. You can also keep your finger down and slide it up and down.
  • On a keyboard, press the Up and Down arrow keys (or W and S). Space or Enter starts a new swim.
  • Press P or Escape, or the Pause button, to take a break. The game also pauses by itself when you switch tabs.

Tips and strategy

  • Look ahead: there is always at least one lane without a jellyfish.
  • Rows of shells next to a jellyfish show you a safe lane. Follow them!
  • A little trail of shells that changes lane is a hint to swim along with it.
  • A pearl in a little clam is worth 5 shells, so it is worth a quick swim.
  • Lost a heart? Look for a heart in a bubble. It gives one heart back.
  • The sea gets a little faster as you swim further, but it always stays gentle.

Game modes and difficulty

There is one relaxed mode that grows with your child. Each swim starts slowly with single jellyfish, and only later do two jellyfish or a slow bobbing one appear. Koa has three hearts per swim. Your best distance and all your shells are saved on this device, so the next turtle friend is always within reach.

History and background

Lane games, where a character moves between a few rows to dodge and collect things, are one of the simplest kinds of action game. With only three choices, even preschoolers quickly understand what to do, and older kids enjoy going further each time.

Koa the Sea Turtle was made for Gemuzi with a calm sea theme: no scary enemies, only sleepy jellyfish, soft sounds that are off until you turn them on, and kind messages after every swim. There are no ads inside the game area and nothing to buy.
