Tiko’s Fruit Basket is a free fruit catching game for kids. Tiko the hedgehog stands under a big fruit tree, and apples, pears, oranges, bananas, cherries and strawberries come tumbling down. Move his basket left and right to catch them all and dodge the friendly little bugs. Every fruit you catch is saved, and fruit unlocks seven new friends. It works in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download and no sign-up.

How to play

  1. Drag your finger or the mouse to move the basket.
  2. You can also tap where the basket should go, or use the arrow keys.
  3. Catch the falling fruit. A golden apple is worth 5!
  4. Dodge the little bugs. A bug costs one of your three hearts.
  5. Collect fruit to unlock new friends.

Controls

  • Drag your finger across the game, or move the mouse, and the basket follows.
  • Tap anywhere in the game and the basket slides to that spot.
  • On a keyboard, use the Left and Right arrows (or A and D). Press Space to start, and P or Escape to pause.

Tips and strategy

  • Keep the basket under the fruit, not where the fruit is now: watch where it is heading.
  • A golden apple with a sparkle is worth 5 fruits, so it is worth a little dash.
  • The bugs wiggle from side to side as they fall. Step out of their way early.
  • If a bug lands in the basket you only lose one heart. Pink hearts sometimes fall to fill you up again.
  • Missing a fruit is fine: nothing bad happens, so just go for the next one.
  • Every fruit counts toward new friends, even in a short game.

Game modes and difficulty

Each game starts slowly and speeds up very gently as your score grows, so young children can learn and older kids still get a challenge. Bugs only appear after the first few fruits. You have three hearts per game. Celebrations pop up at 10, 25, 50 and 100 fruits, and your best score is saved on your device.

History and background

Catching games are one of the oldest kinds of video games: something falls, and you move to be in the right place. That simple idea trains hand-eye coordination, attention and planning ahead, and even the youngest players understand it at once.

Tiko and his friends were made just for Gemuzi, with soft colours, no flashing and no pressure. There are no ads inside the game area, nothing to buy, no timers and no account. Your fruit, friends and best score are stored only in your own browser.
