  • If the two cards match they stay face up. If not, they turn back over.

Tips and strategy

  • Flip cards in a system, for example row by row, so it is easier to remember where things are.
  • Say the pictures out loud or in your head ("dog, top left") to help your memory.
  • When you turn over a card you have already seen, go straight for its partner.
  • Do not rush. Fewer moves count more than speed for your best score.
  • Start with Easy to warm up, then move on to bigger boards.

Game modes and difficulty

Pick your level: Easy has 6 pairs, Medium has 10 pairs and Hard has 18 pairs. The game counts your moves and times you. Your best result is the lowest number of moves, saved separately for each level, so you can track your progress.

History and background

Card matching games, often simply called Pairs, have been played for generations with ordinary decks of cards. All the cards are laid face down and players take turns trying to find matching pairs.

Picture versions made the game popular with young children, and teachers often use it because it trains short-term memory, attention and patience. It remains one of the best games for playing together across ages, because a young child with a sharp memory can easily beat a grown-up.
